Trekking Pole Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures proper functioning of the mechanisms and extends the lifespan of your poles.

🧹 Cleaning

  • Rinse with clean water after each use, especially after outings in wet or muddy conditions.
  • Clean telescopic sections with a damp cloth to remove sand and debris.
  • Dry completely before folding to prevent corrosion of mechanisms.

🔧 Mechanism Maintenance

  • Quick-Lock / telescopic system: regularly disassemble sections, clean, and lightly lubricate with silicone grease.
  • EVA grips: clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Rinse and dry.
  • Straps: hand wash with mild soap, rinse, and air dry.

🛡️ Tip Replacement

  • The tungsten tip wears down gradually: replace it as soon as it's blunt to maintain grip.
  • Adapt the tip to the terrain: rubber tip for hard surfaces (asphalt, polished rock), tungsten tip for natural terrain.
  • Check that the tip is securely attached before each outing.

📦 Storage

  • Store unfolded or folded depending on the model, in a dry place away from heat.
  • Do not leave sections locked under tension during storage.
  • Slightly loosen locking mechanisms to prevent them from getting stuck.

⏳ Lifespan and Signs of Wear

  • Mechanism slipping despite being locked = system wear, replacement necessary.
  • Crack on an aluminum or carbon shaft = danger, do not use anymore.
  • Average lifespan: 3 to 10 years depending on frequency of use.
