Sleeping Bag Care
A well-maintained sleeping bag retains its insulating power and durability in the long term.
🧹 Cleaning
- Machine wash at 30°C maximum, delicate cycle, with a special down or synthetic filling detergent (Nikwax Down Wash).
- No spin cycle: use a delicate cycle without strong spinning to avoid damaging the filling.
- Add 2-3 tennis balls to the drum to prevent the filling from clumping.
- Wash only when necessary (1 to 2 times per season maximum).
🌬️ Drying
- Tumble dry on low heat with tennis balls to restore loft to the filling.
- Allow 2 to 3 drying cycles for complete drying.
- Check that there is no residual moisture before storing.
📦 Storage
- Never store compressed in its compression sack: this crushes the filling and reduces its insulating power.
- Store in a large cotton bag or hung in an airy closet.
- Store clean and perfectly dry.
🔧 Common Repairs
- Small tear: Tenacious Tape self-adhesive patch applied inside and out.
- Stuck zipper: lubricate with beeswax.
- Clumped filling: tumble dry with tennis balls to redistribute it.
⏳ Lifespan and Signs of Wear
- Filling that no longer regains its loft = loss of insulating power, replacement necessary.
- Average lifespan: 5 to 15 years depending on frequency of use and storage.
