Technical Glossary — Lighting & Electronics

All technical terms related to outdoor lighting and electronic devices, listed alphabetically.

Long-lasting battery life
Operating time on a full charge. Varies depending on the lighting mode used.
18650 Lithium Battery
Standard format for high-capacity rechargeable batteries (6,000 to 10,000 mAh). Used in outdoor lamps and electronic devices.
USB Rechargeable Battery / Integrated Power Bank
Internal battery rechargeable via USB. Some models also allow charging other devices (power bank function).
Heart Rate Monitor
Sensor measuring heart rate in real time. Useful for optimizing effort during hiking or trail running.
Automatic Solar Charging
Integrated solar panel that recharges the battery in daylight, without electrical connection.
Bluetooth Connectivity
Wireless connection with a smartphone to synchronize activity data (distance, altitude, heart rate).
IPS Screen
Display technology offering wide viewing angles and good color reproduction. Used in outdoor smartwatches.
5 Bar Water Resistance
Resistance to pressure equivalent to 50 meters deep. Standard for outdoor watches and devices.
GPS Navigation/Tracking
Satellite positioning system integrated into smartwatches to track routes and locate oneself without a mobile network.
Continuous Dimming
Smooth and progressive adjustment of light intensity without fixed steps.
Induction (Motion Sensor Activation)
Automatic lighting system triggered by motion detection. Practical for headlamps.
COB LED (Chip on Board)
High-density LED technology integrating multiple chips on the same substrate. Produces more uniform and powerful lighting.
Integrated LED (360° Visibility)
Active lighting system visible from all sides for night safety (cycling, running).
Lumen (lm)
Unit of measurement for luminous flux. 100 lm = general use, 500 lm = technical use, 3,000 lm = very powerful lighting.
Certified Reflective Materials
Elements that reflect light for night signaling. Certified according to road safety standards.
Variable Lighting Modes
Different power levels and modes (strobe, SOS, red light) to adapt lighting to every situation.
IP67 Standard
Protection rating against dust (6) and temporary immersion up to 1 meter (7). Standard for outdoor devices.
IPX4 Standard
Resistance to splashes and rain from all directions. Intermediate level of protection.
Sleep / Fitness Tracking
Smartwatch functions analyzing sleep phases and physical activity data.
Triple Power Supply (Solar, Crank, Battery)
Energy redundancy system for survival radios and lamps. Ensures power even without electricity.
Adjustable Zoom
Adjustment of the light beam between spot (long range) and flood (wide coverage).
