Bicycle Maintenance & Cycling Accessories
A well-maintained bicycle is safer, performs better, and lasts longer.
🧹 Bicycle Cleaning
- Clean after every wet or muddy ride with water and mild soap.
- Never use a high-pressure jet wash: this washes grease out of bearings and damages seals.
- Clean the chain with a specific degreaser and a brush.
- Dry and lubricate immediately after cleaning.
🔧 Regular Maintenance
- Chain: lubricate after each cleaning with an appropriate lubricant (dry for dry weather, wet for rain). Replace every 2,000-3,000 km.
- Brakes: check pad wear regularly. Bleed hydraulic brakes once a year.
- Tires: check pressure before each ride. Inspect the tread for cuts.
- Derailleurs: adjust the settings if gear changes are imprecise.
🛡️ Accessory Maintenance
- Helmet: clean the inner pads with soapy water. Replace after any violent impact.
- Gloves: hand wash at 30°C, dry flat.
- Cycling clothing: wash at 30°C without fabric softener to preserve elasticity.
📦 Storage
- Store the bicycle away from moisture and frost, ideally suspended or on a stand.
- Slightly deflate tires for long-term storage.
- Lubricate the chain before a long period of inactivity.
⏳ Lifespan and Signs of Wear
- Stretched chain = accelerated sprocket wear, replacement needed.
- Worn brake pads = increased braking distance, danger.
- Helmet after impact = immediate replacement even if no visible damage.
