Product Maintenance — Fishing Gear
Fishing Gear Maintenance
Well-maintained fishing gear is more reliable and lasts much longer.
🧹 Cleaning
- Rods: Rinse with fresh water after each use, especially in saltwater. Dry before storing.
- Reels: Rinse with fresh water, wipe with a soft cloth. Never immerse in water.
- Lures: Rinse and dry before storing to prevent hook corrosion.
🔧 Regular Maintenance
- Reel: Lubricate gears and rotor with special reel grease once a season. Check the drag and adjust if necessary.
- Line (braid or fluorocarbon): Regularly inspect for knots, abrasions, or weaknesses. Replace at the beginning of the season.
- Hooks: Check the point with your finger. A dull hook = fewer bites, replace it.
- Rod guides: Inspect for scratches that wear down the line.
📦 Storage
- Store rods in their cases or on a rod rack, protected from impacts.
- Loosen the reel's drag for long-term storage.
- Store lures in waterproof boxes, categorized by type.
- Store in a dry place, away from heat and direct light.
⏳ Lifespan and Signs of Wear
- Squeaking reel or erratic drag = maintenance or replacement needed.
- Rod with scratched guide = replace the guide before it wears down the line.
- Line that frequently breaks = immediate replacement.
- Average lifespan: 5 to 15 years for a rod, 3 to 10 years for a reel.
