Technical Glossary — Optics

All technical terms related to binoculars, telescopes, and outdoor glasses, listed alphabetically.

Panoramic Design / Peripheral Vision
Expanded field of view on sports glasses for better environmental awareness.
Magnification (e.g., 10x, 30x, 100x)
Magnification factor of a pair of binoculars or a telescope. Ex: 10x42 = 10x magnification with a 42mm objective lens.
HD (High Definition) Lens
Precision optics offering a clear and contrasted image, even in low light conditions.
Nano-lenses / Nano-technology
Lenses using nanometer-scale treatments to improve clarity, reduce glare, and enhance scratch resistance.
Objective (mm)
Diameter of the front lens. The larger it is, the more light is captured (better vision in low light).
Reinforced Polycarbonate (PC)
Technical plastic highly resistant to impact and transparent. Used for sports glasses lenses.
BAK4 Prism
High-density optical glass used in high-end binoculars. Offers a brighter and more contrasted image than BK7.
UV400 Protection
Filters 100% of UV rays up to 400 nm. Essential for sports glasses at altitude or in sunny environments.
Adjustable Nose Pad
Adjustment of the nose rest to adapt glasses to different morphologies or for corrective lens wearers.
Anti-reflective Coating
Layer applied to lenses to reduce glare and improve visual clarity.
PC (Polycarbonate) Lenses
High impact resistance plastic lenses. Lightweight and unbreakable, ideal for outdoor sports.
High Definition Polarized Lenses
Technology filtering horizontal reflections (water, road, snow) for increased visual clarity and reduced eye fatigue.
Variable Zoom (e.g., 10-30x25)
Adjustable magnification range. Offers more flexibility than fixed magnification for wildlife observation or astronomy.
