Technical Glossary — Hydration & Purification
All technical terms related to outdoor water filtration and purification, listed alphabetically.
- Premium Activated Carbon
- Filter material that absorbs chemical contaminants, chlorine, and bad odors from water.
- Flow Rate (L/minute)
- Speed of water filtration. E.g., 2 L/min for common hiking use.
- Multi-stage filtration (4 levels)
- System combining several types of filtration: sediment pre-filter, activated carbon, ultra-fine membrane, mineral post-filter.
- 0.01 micron / 0.1 micron membrane
- Pore size of the filter. The smaller the number, the finer the filtration. 0.01 µm removes viruses and bacteria, 0.1 µm removes parasites and bacteria.
- Micro-ultrafiltration
- Filtration technology eliminating bacteria, parasites, and viruses via a membrane with very fine perforations (up to 99.99999% efficiency).
- NSF/ANSI Standard
- American standards certifying the effectiveness and safety of drinking water treatment systems.
- EPA Standards
- Certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for water purification. Guarantees the removal of biological contaminants.
- Check Valve
- Mechanism preventing filtered water from flowing back into the unfiltered area, ensuring system safety.
